Officials seeking help ID’ing man found dead in forest preserve

An unidentified man was found dead Friday at the Fort Sheridan Forest Preserve near Highland Park.

Passersby at the beach called police after seeing the man floating in shallow water at the forest preserve, according to a press release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office. First responders arrived and removed the man from the water.

An autopsy conducted by the Lake County Coroner’s Office indicated that the man’s death was consistent with drowning, and attempts to identify him have not been successful.

The man is described as 5 feet 3 inches tall, about 140 pounds and roughly between 50-70 years old. He has gray hair and is bald at the top of the head.

When he was found, the man was wearing light blue drawstring shorts, an olive-green Adidas hat, Nike shoes size 7, a white metal/silver color ring and a Tahari brand watch.

The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lake County Coroner’s Office at (847) 377-2200 or the Lake County Forest Preserve Police Department.
