Girls basketball: Weber steps down after six seasons

Matt Weber, who this past winter led Prospect to its first Mid-Suburban League girls basketball championship in the program's 53-year history, has stepped down as the Knights head coach after six seasons.

"It is with a heavy heart and a wide range of emotions that I am sharing some difficult news," Weber told the Prospect girls basketball community. "This was not an easy choice. Being a part of the Prospect community has been the defining highlight of my professional life. However, due to pressing family and personal reasons, I have realized that I can no longer give the program, and more importantly these athletes, the 100 percent commitment they truly deserve."

Weber produced a 125-54 record as the program's eighth girls basketball coach.

Weber is the only Knights' coach to win 20-plus games in five straight seasons.

"Reflecting on the last six years, I am filled with immense pride," he said.

Prospect won a school-record 27 games in 2025.

"We’ve shared countless hours in the gym, celebrated hard-fought victories, and grown through the challenges of tough losses,“ said Weber, a math teacher. "But beyond the scoreboard, what I will cherish most are the relationships built and the privilege of watching your daughters grow into confident, resilient young women."

Weber took his third Prospect team to the MSL title game this winter (defeated Buffalo Grove), tied with Mike Nocella for most by a Knights coach.

"Prospect High School is a special place, and while I am moving on to focus on my family, I will forever be a fan of this team," Weber said in his announcement. "I am committed to working closely with the administration to ensure a smooth transition and to make sure the program is set up for continued success. I know Prospect will start a search immediately and be in communication with everyone about the process.

"I thank the parents for trusting me with their children. Their support, whether from the stands or behind the scenes, has been the backbone of this program’s success. I thank you for six unforgettable years."
