Geneva’s Earth Day features recycling, activities and giveaways
Families can celebrate the environment at the Geneva Earth Day event, sponsored by the city’s Natural Resources Committee and the Geneva Park District.
The Earth Day festivities will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Peck Farm Park, 4038 Kaneville Road. The public can recycle shoes, cotton clothes, small electronics, and holiday lights for free. Televisions and computer monitors can be recycled for a $25 fee (21 inches or less) or $35 (22 inches or more), depending on screen size.
Free paper shredding will be offered at the event. Other activities include chalk art, children’s activities, tomato plant and tree whip giveaways, food vendors, and more. Vendors will share best practices in sustainability.
Flat Can Recycling will recycle household items for a fee, including latex paint cans, household batteries, aerosol products, propane tanks, carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and car seats.
Full lists of accepted recycling items and applicable fees are available on the Geneva Park District website.
Residents who have unwanted bicycles can bring them to the event, where Working Bikes will refurbish and donate them to families in need.
Earth Day is free and open to all ages. For those interested in helping plant native prairie plants at Peck Farm Park, advanced registration is required through the Geneva Park District.
