Track and field: Lakes takes crown at McHenry invite
It was a good day for Lakes and Cayleigh Mathena who won the long jump (16.75) and triple jump (33-7 1/2) at the 2026 Trackin at McCracken co-ed Invite Friday night in McHenry.
Lakes took top team honors at with 126 points. Eagles pole vaulter Isabella Aya was first with a vault of 10-8. Makayla Williams won the 200 in 26.30.
Breanne Fellows won the discus with a toss of 107.07 inches. Lakes won the 800 relay in 1:48.8.
McHenry was second with 106 points.
Kennedy Harding won the 1,600 in 5:24.44 while Olivia Meyer won the 100 hurdles in 16.29 and Lexi Danz won the 3,200 in 11:28.56.
Antioch was third with 95 points.
Kennedi Copeland won the 400 in 1:01.16 while Abigail Fuesting won the 100 meters in 12.50 and Madison Maloney won the shot put with a throw of 35-10.
The Sequoits won the 400 relay in 49.29.
Libertyville high jumper Dejahnae Billups cleared 5-2 to claim top honors.
"It was good to get outside after the indoor season," said Billups, who will attend DePaul and not participate in track.
“My confidence is getting better. I was a little down after the indoor season. I have a different mindset. It was a great day to jump."
Libertyville won the 1,600 relay in 4:27.57.
Estella Ollinger won the 800 meters in 2:22.91 for Vernon Hills. Ella Nowicki won the 300 hurdles in 49.21 for the Cougars.
Crystal Lake South won the 3,200 relay in a time of 10:16.38.
Boys meet: Lakes was first with 121 points. Jordan Phelan was a double winner for Eagles winning shot put 57.9 and discus (150-01).
Jules Perez won the long jump with a jump of 22-5 while Cooper Summy won the 800 in 1:59.64.
Grant was runner-up with 94 points. The Bulldogs won the 400 relay in 43.29 and 800 relay in 1:30.92.
Cole Pemberton, who will run at Division II Wisconsin-Parkside next season, won the 100 meters in 10.91.
"It was a lot of fun to run outdoors," said Pemberton. “I have high expectations.”
Connor Evans won the 110 hurdles in 15.94.
Jacobs was third with 82 points.
Gavin Glosson won the 3,200 in a time of 9:47.43 and Camron Sumling won the 200 in 23.21.
Vernon Hills got first place efforts from Josh Benson (300 hurdles, 42.33) and Lester Bryant (4:23.40). The Cougars won the 1,600 relay in 3:33.35.
Libertyvilles's Sebastian Atencio won the high jump (6-1) and Ryan Hoch won the pole vault (22-8).
McHenry's Oliver Sznyterman won the 400 in 51.40.
"I am glad to be outside," said the McHenry senior. “The coaches and many have contributed to my success.”
Grayslake North's Elijah Fajimi won the triple jump (40-09- 3/4).
Crystal Lake South won the 3200 relay in 8:35.9.
