Round Lake area firefighter suffers minor injuries in townhouse fire

A Round Lake Area Fire Protection District firefighter suffered minor injuries battling one of two residential fires the agency handled Tuesday.

Fire officials said the firefighter was transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital for treatment of an injury suffered Tuesday evening battling a townhouse fire in Hainesville.

It was the second residential blaze the agency had responded to that day. No other injuries were reported in either.

The first fire was reported at about 7 a.m. at a mobile home on Bengson Court in Round Lake Park.

Fire officials said operations were hampered because fire hydrants in the area were malfunctioning during the attack and extra equipment had to be brought in from neighboring agencies.

The residents of the mobile home were displaced and the American Red Cross is working with them to find alternative housing.

The second fire occurred just before 7:40 p.m. at a townhouse on the 100 block of Holiday Lane.

In addition to injuring a firefighter, the blaze left two units uninhabitable. Those families are also receiving assistance to find alternative housing.

No damage estimates were available for either fire.
