The headline’s mission

Your Thursday April 2 main headline: "Trump defends decision to attack Iran..."

The second line should have read "with usual lies and bluster."

Neutral unopinionated headlines were an admirable tradition back in the olden days of journalism, when readers were accustomed to reading the entire article and understanding the whole story.

Trump's incompetent and reckless behavior, his lies and his mental condition are no longer theories -- they are established facts that Trump himself verifies almost every day. He continues to harm our nation and the world while newspaper editors fret over the perfect neutral and timid headline.

Here's a condensed version of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch headline on the same speech: "No End Date...Few Details on Strategy."

Don't let Trump control the narrative -- tell us what is really happening -- not just in the story, but the headline too.
