Police investigating shots fired between two cars in West Dundee

Multiple police agencies are investigating shots fired between two vehicles in West Dundee Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The occupants of the two vehicles engaged in a dispute shortly before 2 p.m., and traveled to Edwards Avenue west of Ryan Lane where shots were fired, according to a news release from West Dundee police.

Witnesses said the vehicles immediately fled the area. When officers arrived at the scene, they found several spent shell casings, but have had no reports of injuries or property damage, the press release stated.

With Dundee Highlands Elementary School nearby, police say they were in communication with school officials who implemented the appropriate safety protocols.

Police said they are currently investigating what prompted the dispute and where it started.

According to officials, there is no active threat to the public.
