Aurora man faces gun, cannabis charges

An Aurora man has been charged with possessing more than 2 kilograms of cannabis and illegally possessing a gun.

Illinois State Police announced they arrested 24-year-old Estevon D. Vargas, of the 300 block of Michigan Avenue. He is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon. He is also charged with armed violence, manufacturing or delivering more than 2,000 grams of cannabis, and several possession-of-cannabis charges, all felonies, according to Kane County court records.

Police did not specify what type of gun they found when they searched Vargas’ home.

The case was investigated by the state police, Aurora police, and the Kendall County Police Assistance Team.

Vargas was arrested April 6. He is being detained pretrial at the Kane County jail.

The most serious charge, armed violence, is nonprobationable and carries a sentence of 6 to 30 years in prison if Vargas is convicted.
