DuPage and Kane County chairs champion Meals on Wheels during annual March for Meals Week
DuPage Senior Citizens Council and Kane Senior Council invited various members of the community to be Community Champions as part of the annual March for Meals campaign for Meals on Wheels.
During the week of March 23-27, various leaders in the DuPage and Kane county communities joined volunteers on delivery routes to bring meals to homebound seniors.
Among those Community Champions were DuPage County Board Chair Deb Conroy and Kane County Board Chair Corinne Pierog.
On Wednesday, March 25, Conroy delivered meals from the distribution location in Bensenville, while Pierog delivered meals from Kane Senior Council’s distribution location in North Aurora.
Both county board chairs accompanied volunteers on their delivery routes and experienced firsthand the impact of the Meals on Wheels services on homebound seniors.
This year’s March for Meals campaign coincides with the council’s 50th anniversary, marking five decades of service, compassion, and community partnership.
Since its inception 50 years ago, the DuPage Senior Citizens Council has relied on community support and partnership, and plans to continue to do so for the next 50 years.
That is why the organization plans to call on members of the community to help celebrate this milestone through special events and giving opportunities, including the launch of a new sustainability fund to ensure future support for the essential services for seniors.
The DuPage Senior Citizens Council is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3), volunteer-driven organization dedicated to helping seniors live with dignity.
The council provides a variety of services for seniors, including Meals on Wheels, senior dining, health and wellness education, well-being checks, pet food and assistance, yard cleanups, social connection services, and intergenerational activities.
