Lighting strike, fire displace residents of multifamily building in Lombard

A lightning strike Thursday night in Lombard sparked a fire that displaced the residents of an eight-unit multifamily building.

The Lombard Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on the 2000 block of S. Finley Road just before 10:45 p.m. to find fire in the chimney and attic of a residential building.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, limiting it to the unit of origin, but the other seven units sustained varying degrees of smoke and water damage.

Authorities say no injuries were reported. However, they said residents of all eight units were displaced.
