Person hit by Metra train near Geneva

A person was hit by a Metra train near Geneva early Thursday, shutting down service on the UP West line for a time.

Service has been restored between Chicago’s Ogilvie station and Elburn, but Metra warned of “extensive delays” and some potential scheduling changes because of what the transit agency called a “trespasser strike.”

The person’s condition wasn’t immediately clear.

Metra apologized to those who didn’t receive alerts about the schedule disruptions, saying the delivery system it uses for X alerts was not working.
