Boys lacrosse: Fremd takes control against Buffalo Grove
Fremd’s boys lacrosse team beat host Buffalo Grove 15-3 in Thursday’s Mid-Suburban League crossover.
“Our offense played very well. We just needed to finish,” Fremd Coach Evan Chikeles said. “We had all the opportunities (and) just needed to put the ball in the back of the net.”
Fremd (1-1) established itself thanks to junior attacker Brady Foley's first goal of the evening just 46 seconds in for 1-0 lead.
Fellow Viking attacker Liam Tyrrell, a freshman, followed with back-to-back scores. The second came off a feed from Foley that expanded the lead to 3-0 with 6:56 left in the first.
Bison (0-3) senior attacker Grady Boeche's goal got the home team on the board with 2:08 remaining in the opening period to make it a 3-1 Fremd advantage heading into the second.
The visitors seized control in the second quarter with six goals. Senior middie Phillip Hession's tallied the first of his two goals just 64 ticks in. Junior attacker Ryan Wienke's bouncer came a couple of minutes later, followed by goals from Foley, Tyrrell and Hession.
Jeffrey Border capped the scoring with 2:03 left in the half as the Vikings totaled 26 shots on goal in the first half and outshot the Bison 50-9 for the game.
Junior midfielder Aiden Suehr tallied for a 12-2 Viking lead heading into the fourth. Hession then tallied twice for a five-goal night and Tyrrell's added a fourth goal, coming off another Foley assist.
Josh Rauch and Jartett Dumlao tallied for Buffalo Grove.
“We really wanted to strike them hard and I tried to find my guys open,” Foley said. “There were a lot of good opportunities tonight and I'm glad that they got to finish those.”
