Elgin church to feature 200-voice ‘Hallelujah Chorus’ for Easter
On Resurrection Sunday, April 5, the 200-voice combined choirs of Elgin’s Northwest Bible Baptist Church and its Providence Baptist College will open the church’s evening service with the majestic “Hallelujah Chorus” from George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah.”
This popular Easter night’s choral performance is an annual tradition at Northwest, which marked its 52nd anniversary this March. Everyone is invited to this event, in commemoration of the miraculous resurrection of The Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, God’s Son and the Messiah.
This Easter special will take place at 6 p.m. in the church auditorium, 9N889 Nesler Road on the far-west side of Elgin. The church’s Pastor is Phil Cavanaugh, who four years ago succeeded Dr. Keith Gomez, who retired after 40 years of pastoring. Pastor Cavanaugh is a graduate of Northwest’s own Providence Baptist College; he previously served 10 years as a youth pastor and assistant pastor at First Baptist Church in Dwight, Illinois, and five years as co-pastor at Northwest Bible Baptist Church.
A few of the over 20 ministries of the church include the Bible college; Christian school; 11 charitable Sunday school buses; a 517-acre summer camp in Rochelle; a worldwide missionary program and agency; an evangelistic outreach to Northwest suburban area neighborhoods, an extensive outreach to over 15 nursing homes and a shut-in visitation program; a Spanish department; active children’s and youth ministries; a victory over addictions ministry; and distribution of free Bibles in several shopping areas.
