Easter is a celebration of life
“I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection”
— Philippians 3:10 (NIV).
As a young girl, I would get up early on Easter morning and spend what seemed like hours gazing at my new attire as I spun around in front of the full-length mirror. I wore a bright, colorful dress, white gloves and white patent leather shoes. Thoughts drifted through my mind of how dazzling I looked. I couldn’t wait to get to church and enjoy the celebration.
I savored the church’s once-a-year Easter sunrise breakfast and singing in the choir for two packed services. During the service, I smelled the aroma of fresh white lilies at the altar and was awed by the ladies in the congregation who were dressed in their best. Easter Day was filled with new things.
We enjoy the celebration of Easter as we parade around in our new apparel. However, Easter is not about new hats, gloves and shoes. Instead, it is the celebration of life that emerges from within us when we come to know Christ
Christ was resurrected from death to life on the first Easter morning, so that we could receive eternal life in heaven and in abundant life today. He wants to resurrect us by giving us new thoughts and character to fulfill our destiny.
As we begin to gaze into the full-length mirror of the Bible and see the words on the page reflect back at us, they start to show us the areas in our life that need something fresh and new. This is one of the ways God starts the resurrection process in us.
The Apostle Paul understood the concept of the resurrection. He made it his determined goal to know the character of Christ, so that new things could resurrect in his life. If you are feeling like your life is stale and in need of something new, Easter is a great time for renewal.
As you accept Christ as your savior and look into God’s word to change the things that reflect back at you, then you can experience the power of a resurrected life!
