Man killed in crane incident in Carol Stream

A 55-year-old man was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crane accident at a business in Carol Stream.

Firefighters and police were called shortly after noon to S & S International, 457 St. Paul Blvd., for a report of a person trapped under a crane.

According to Carol Stream police, the man was trying to load a large spool of metal onto a flatbed truck using an overhead crane.

The crane gave way, causing the spool to fall and hit the man.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Carol Stream police and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office are investigating, according to the news release. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has started a separate investigation.

Police did not name the man.
