Fire damages roof of Arlington Heights home
Arlington Heights police and fire investigators are working to determine the cause of a fire Monday that left a two-foot hole in the roof of a home.
Authorities said firefighters initially were called to the 1000 block of Rand Road at about 1:12 p.m. in response to a reported structure fire. They later learned the correct address was in the nearby 1200 block of West Kelly Street, officials said.
The first crews on the scene arrived to find fire coming from the second story of the home, involving both the roof structure and installed solar panels, fire officials said.
The home’s occupant got out safely before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, limiting damage primarily to the roof, along with minor water damage to the home’s interior, according to the fire department. The residence remains habitable, officials said.
