Aurora’s revived RiverEdge Park announces summer lineup
Tickets are on sale for summer concerts and other events at Aurora’s newly renovated RiverEdge Park, which reopens June 20 with the city’s annual Blues on the Fox celebration featuring Trombone Shorty and guitarist Ally Venable.
In addition to the previously announced return of The Beach Boys (Aug. 14), the concert lineup includes Rockford’s favorite sons Cheap Trick (June 25), Chicago favs Poi Dog Pondering (Aug. 15), British reggae-pop band UB40 with Ali Campbell (Aug. 9) and a daylong salute to the 1980s on Aug. 16 featuring Thomas Dolby and The Lost Toy People, A Flock of Seagulls, The Motels, The Producers, Animotion, The Escape Club and Tommy Tutone.
Besides increasing the venue’s capacity to 7,500 and expanding lawn seating, RiverEdge Park updates include a new restroom building and beverage pavilion, as well as three new jumbotrons.
Other events include a free fireworks celebration on July 3; country star Lauren Alaina (July 5) and southern jam band Gov’t Mule (Aug. 13). Tribute bands set to perform include: Sixteen Candles (July 17), Get the Led Out (July 18), Hollywood Nights: The Bob Seger Experience (July 31), 90s Pop Nation (Aug. 8), The Australian Pink Floyd Show (Aug. 21) and Stayin’ Alive (Aug. 29).
RiverEdge also hosts family-friendly movies in the park: “The Goonies” on July 16, “The Princess and the Frog” on July 30 and “Coco” on Aug. 6.
