St. Charles workshop to continue planning what to do with former police station site

St. Charles residents, business owners and community members will have another opportunity next month to provide feedback on what should happen with the city’s former police station.

A public workshop about the site is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. April 8 at City Hall, 2 E. Main St.

The meeting will build on input gathered from a previous survey and during a February open house, where participants voiced support for having open space with room for community gatherings.

Participants were largely opposed to using the site for building housing, businesses, a hotel, or restaurants, according to a city summary of the survey and comments from the open house.

The police station site has been vacant since 2019.

As part of the next phase, the city will seek input about specific details, including potential amenities, programming, food and entertainment options, and future uses for the existing building.

There will be renderings of potential plans and stations where people can share their preferences and priorities.

A second survey is also being conducted by the city.
