Mount Prospect teen facing gun charge after Elmhurst chase ends in crash
A 17-year-old boy from Mount Prospect has been charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer for a chase in Elmhurst that ended with a car crash.
DuPage County juvenile court Judge Kishori Tank has ordered that he be detained until at least his next court appearance, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.
Authorities say that around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, an Elmhurst police officer reported seeing a black BMW sedan weaving in and out of traffic, while driving fast, on southbound Route 83.
The officer pursued it, and the car went through a red light at Riverside Drive, crashing into a Toyota RAV4. A person in the RAV4 suffered a broken leg.
Police say they found an unserialized “ghost gun” in a backpack in the BMW, with an extended magazine containing 24 rounds of 9 mm ammunition.
The boy is next due in court April 2.
