Keep an eye out for angels in your life
“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways”
— Psalm 91:11 (NIV).
I have a portrait of an angel hanging over my sofa. Some people don’t believe in angels; they think they were just created for TV, books, art and movies. However, world evangelist Billy Graham referred to them as “God’s secret agents.”
The Bible informs us that we need to be aware of how we entertain strangers, because we may entertain someone that is actually an angel (Hebrews 13:2).
Some happenstances may have left one wondering if they had an encounter with an angel. A friend informed me of such a time. She explained that she was burdened with concern that she might have an asthma attack as she struggled to carry heavy suitcases up a hill.
As she wrestled with the weight of the bags, a man appeared out of nowhere and asked if he could help her carry them. She declined his offer. However, he continued to talk with her as she carried the bags. To her surprise, she made it up the hill quickly and wasn’t even out of breath. When she turned to thank the man, he was nowhere in sight.
Joan Webster Anderson from Evanston tells of an angel encounter she experienced. She is sure an angel towed her son home when his vehicle broke down in the middle of a blizzard. When she went to pay the driver, the tow truck was gone. He didn’t even leave any tire tracks behind. This piqued her curiosity about angels. So, she collected stories others experienced and wrote a book.
On that first Easter morning, when the women went to visit the tomb of Christ, they were surprised to encounter two angels guarding the spot where the body of Jesus had been.
I believe these angels were there not only to proclaim the joyous resurrection of Jesus Christ to these women, but also so that we can enjoy the thought of God’s secret agents’ help in our lives.
