Broadway in Chicago announces 2026-27 season
Touring productions of the 2025 Tony Award-winning hits “Maybe Happy Ending” and “Oh, Mary!” along with a remount of Kokandy Productions’ sold-out revival of “Jekyll & Hyde” are among the shows on tap for Broadway in Chicago’s 2026-2027 season.
BIC announced Monday that the season will begin Sept. 8 with “Jekyll & Hyde,” the Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse musical adapted from Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1886 gothic horror novella the “Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.”
Directed by Derek Van Barham, with music direction by Nick Sula and choreography by Lincolnshire native Brenda Didier, Kokandy’s revival marked the musical’s first Chicago-area production in 15 years.
That’s followed by the return of “Dirty Dancing: The Musical” (Sept. 9-20) and the Olivier Award-winning “Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical” (Sept. 29-Oct. 11). The broadly comic tuner is based on the true story of British intelligence’s secret 1943 mission to deceive Adolph Hitler and turn the tide of World War II using a dead body and fake letters.
“Jersey Boys,” the jukebox tuner chronicling the rise and fall and rise of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons plays the CIBC Theatre Nov. 10-22.
Next up is “Maybe Happy Ending” (Jan. 5-17, 2027) by Hue Park and Will Aronson. The musical is about two retired humanlike helper robots, Oliver and Claire, who fall in love.
The season concludes with “Oh, Mary!” (Jan. 19-Feb. 7, 2027), Cole Escola’s dark comedy that imagines Mary Todd Lincoln’s life in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
