Vernon Township Summer Camp registration is open

Vernon Township has announced that registration is officially open for its 2026 Summer Camp. This year’s program has expanded to serve children ages 4-8 (by Sept. 1, 2026), with a longer full-day schedule from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., giving campers even more time for arts and crafts, games, sports and lifeguard-led swim lessons every third day. Each week features new themes, special guest entertainers and countless opportunities for learning, laughter and lasting memories.

Summer Camp runs Monday, June 15, through Friday, July 31, at William E. Peterson Park in Vernon Hills and is run by fully-screened camp counselors. Families can register now at vernontownship.com/161/Summer-Camp to secure their child’s spot.

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, campers should be fully toilet-trained and able to dress themselves for daily swimming. Parents are encouraged to pack a lunch, water bottle, bathing suit, towel, sunscreen and rain gear, and to dress children appropriately for the weather, as most activities take place outdoors.

To prepare for the camp season, the township is completing important facility upgrades. Plaster repairs are underway in the pool to ensure a smooth, strong and safe surface for campers, while a new roof is being installed on the park/camp building to maintain a secure and well-maintained environment for all. Campers and residents can look forward to enjoying the improved pool on opening day: Saturday, May 23.

“This camp is more than just fun; it’s a place where children develop social skills, build confidence and form lasting friendships,” Vernon Township Supervisor Tim Kobler said. “With expanded hours, an extended age range and enhanced facilities, this year’s program promises to be the best one yet.”

The township is also hiring part-time seasonal staff members. Training is provided, so no prior experience is required. Learn more at vernontownship.com/270/Summer-Employment-Opportunities.
