Illinois State University students among 6 injured in Normal shooting

Six people, including two Illinois State University students and two minors, were injured in a shooting early Sunday in a residential neighborhood near the school’s Normal campus.

None of the injuries were reported to be life-threatening, and no arrests had been made, police said.

According to Normal police, officers responded to the 700 block of Franklin Avenue for a report of multiple shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers located several people outside who had sustained gunshot wounds, police said. Officers provided aid to the victims, who were subsequently taken to local hospitals for treatment, according to police.

The victims includes two juvenile males, two men and two women, police said. An ISU spokesperson confirmed to the Chicago Sun-Times that two students were among those injured.

Based on the preliminary investigation, the shooting appears to be an isolated event, police said. It remains under investigation by the Normal Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, authorities said.
