Casten, Quigley, Schneider winning in suburban U.S. House races

U.S. Rep. Sean Casten of Downers Grove was among the members of the Chicago-area congressional delegation who were headed to primary victories Tuesday.

Casten defeated challenger Joey Ruzevich of Chicago the 6th District’s Democratic Party primary, The Associated Press declared. With an estimated 75% of Democratic ballots counted, Casten was ahead 49,674 votes to 15,327 votes, unofficial results showed.

Casten will face Republican Niki Conforti of Glen Ellyn, who soundly defeated rival Skylar Duensing of Shorewood, The Associated Press declared.

The 6th District includes parts of Cook and DuPage counties.

5th District

Democratic U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley and Republican Tommy Hanson were victorious in their respective 5th District primaries, setting up another showdown between the two Chicagoans.

With an estimated 86% of Democratic ballots counted, Quigley had 59,063 votes and was declared the victor by The Associated Press. Matt Conroy had 21,191 votes, Ellen Corley had 6,639 votes and Anthony Michael Tamez had 2,546 votes, according to unofficial results.

With 76% of ballots counted in the Republican primary, Hanson had 9,731 votes, enough for The Associated Press to name him the winner. Barry Wicker had 2,241 votes and Kimball Ladien had 1,540 votes.

The 5th District includes parts of Cook and Lake counties.

10th District

Democratic U.S. Rep. Brad Schneider of Highland Park fended off a primary challenge from Mundelein’s Morgan Coghill in the 10th District.

With an estimated 63% of ballots counted, Schneider was ahead of Coghill 32,532 votes to 6,492 votes, enough for The Associated Press to declare a winner.

Schneider will face Republican Carl Lambrecht of Highland Park in the general election.

The 10th District includes parts of Cook, Lake and McHenry counties.

11th District

Elburn Village President Jeff Walter was leading in the Republican primary for Illinois’ 11th Congressional District seat.

With 25% of ballots counted, Walter was ahead of three other candidates. If that holds, Walter will face U.S. Rep. Bill Foster of Naperville in November. Foster ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

Walter had 5,989 votes as of late Tuesday, or about 44%, unofficial results showed. He was trailed by Naperville’s Mike Pierce, who had 5,185 votes; Aurora’s Charlie Kim, who had 1,718 votes; and Tedora Brown of Palos Park, who had 761 votes.

The 11th District encompasses portions of Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, Will, DeKalb and Boone counties.

14th District

Oswego’s Jim Marter was leading Gary Vician of Somonauk in the Republican primary for the 14th District seat.

With an estimated 19% of ballots counted, Marter was ahead 7,458-2,590. If his lead holds, Marter will again face Democratic U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood of Naperville in November.

The 14th District includes parts of Kane, Will and five other counties.
