Lee to represent GOP in race for Cook County Board District 15

Republican voters Tuesday appeared to choose businessman Daniel Lee to represent the party in November’s general election for Cook County District 15 commissioner against Democrat Ted Mason.

With all precincts counted, Lee had 5,294 votes — or 61.15% of the total — to Gabriella Hoxie’s 3,364, according to unofficial results.

Both Lee of Hoffman Estates and Hoxie of Schaumburg recognized a value in getting even one more Republican voice on the 16-1 Democrat-dominated county board. But they each saw themselves as better suited.

Lee is a lifelong entrepreneur who’s never run for political office before. Hoxie is a communications staffer with the Illinois House Republican Caucus.

Lee argued his longer life experience and background in business rather than politics would make for a more profound change on the county board.

Mason is both Elk Grove Township Democratic committeeman and chief of staff for current District 15 Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison, who ran in the 8th Congressional District’s Democratic primary instead.

District 15 covers all or parts of communities like Barrington, Barrington Hills, Bartlett, Elk Grove Village, Elgin, Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg and Streamwood.
