‘Edgy’ Tim: Updates on some of the top local recruits in the Class of 2027
The NCAA football recruiting calendar on March 2 switched from a dead period to a quiet period. According to the NCAA, the quiet period is that period of time when it is permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the member institution’s campus.
Several top prospects, including a handful within the Daily Herald readership area in the Class of 2027, have already made on-campus visits, or are setting up both unofficial and official visits as well. Today let's get caught up on the latest visits schedule for a handful of the top recruit names in the Class of 2027.
Libertyville tight end Brock Williams (6-foot-5, 225 pounds)
Williams, a four-star recruit, has been on the recruiting radar screen as long as any name in the Class of 2027 in Illinois. He has made it seems like an endless amount of unofficial college visits over the past few years. Williams is down to three top schools: Georgia, Ohio State and Texas.
He's made several unofficial visits to each school. So far Williams has no official visits set, but he is expected to make his college decision soon.
Hersey quarterback Jake Nawrot (6-foot-5, 200 pounds)
Nawrot, who has seen his overall recruiting stock soar this winter, is a bit of a newcomer to the college visit circuit. Nawrot made his first unofficial visit to Kentucky this weekend. He is also planning to make additional spring unofficial visits to Florida State, Iowa, Washington, Kansas State and possibly Oregon as well. So far Nawrot hasn't set any official visits for this summer, but he is also looking hard at his college offers and options and is eyeing a possible decision coming in late April or early May.
Montini quarterback Israel Abrams (6-foot-5, 195 pounds)
Abrams earlier last week released his top 5 schools list, which includes in no specific order Purdue, Kentucky, Miami (Fla.), Florida State and Auburn. He made a recent unofficial visit to Purdue and also was at Kentucky on Friday for another unofficial visit. Look for Abrams to also make additional spring visits to Auburn, Miami (Fla.) and Florida State. He has also set up official visits to Purdue (May 22), Auburn (June 5), Florida State (June 12) and Kentucky (June 19).
Hinsdale Central defensive linemen Tommy Riordan (6-foot-5, 245 pounds)
Riordan was planning a handful of unofficial spring visits, including Stanford, Wisconsin (March 21) and Iowa (April 4). He also has set up official visits to Wisconsin (May 28) and Iowa (June 5). Riordan's older brother, Gene, signed with Iowa and is part of the Hawkeyes Class of 2026, and the Hawkeyes could be the team to beat for Tommy.
