Snow, gusty winds could create hazardous conditions for Monday morning commute
Snow combined with high winds could create blizzardlike conditions overnight and into Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service warned Sunday.
One to three inches of snow could fall on the Chicago region between 10 p.m. Sunday and 1 p.m. Monday, according to a Winter Weather Advisory.
The advisory covers Northern Cook County, and all of DuPage, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties.
The snow will pair with wind gusts up to 45 mph, causing periods of reduced visibility and the potential for hazardous travel conditions during the morning commute, according to the weather service. Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, could be slick and hazardous, and gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
Drivers should be prepared for slippery roads, slow down and use caution. Those going outside should watch their first few steps on stairs, sidewalks and driveways, which may become icy and slippery.
Falling temperatures will follow the storm, with lows expected to drop to 9 degrees Monday night and a high of just 25 degrees on Tuesday.
Snow showers could return Tuesday night, before the skies clear and temperatures return to a more seasonable mid 40s on Wednesday and up into the mid 50s Thursday and Friday, according to the NWS.
