Hoffman Estates police officers rescue woman from submerged vehicle

Two people are hospitalized after a vehicle went into the water Wednesday in Hoffman Estates, officials said.

Officers responded to the area near 5333 Prairie Stone Parkway, at the northwest corner of Hoffman Boulevard and Pratum Avenue, just before 5 p.m. for a report of a vehicle submerged in a retention pond, according to a news release from the Hoffman Estates Police Department.

Upon arrival, a male passenger already was outside the vehicle, but the female driver was trapped inside the car and unresponsive, the release said.

One officer was able to get to the driver, cut her seat belt and, with the help of other officers, bring her to shore and start life-saving care that continued until the Hoffman Estates Fire Department arrived.

Both the man and woman were taken to Ascension St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where they were reported to be stable, the release said.

The incident remains under investigation, and no further information was available Wednesday evening.
