Police deserve decent place to work
What do you know about how the men and women of the Geneva Police Department function in their current police station? Do you have any idea what their work environment is like? Would you want to work somewhere that, when you came into work, you had to clean up indoor flooding, backed up sewage, share a crowded desk space and know that the citizens that you serve and protect do not care?
What is critically important is to provide a safe and clean space that allows the officers to do their jobs. Their current police station is a hodgepodge of small rooms on two floors with sections built in 1915, 1953 and 1987. It significantly lacks adequate space for the myriad functions they are required to do.
I have seen it in person and it should make any citizen (that has any semblance of care or empathy) embarrassed. From what I saw, I believe they really need our community support. I have seen anonymous signs that state “Vote NO $59.4 million referendum” or “Prioritize Officers, Not Expensive Offices …”
Really? Is this how you show your support for the police? If you own a half-million-dollar house, how much would it hurt to forgo a couple of sandwiches a month (a cost of about $35 per month) to support our dedicated men and women in blue. It will feel good knowing that you actually do support the men and women of the GPD.
Now is that too much to ask? I support our men and women of the GPD, and I will show my support by voting “Yes.” Please join me and don’t succumb to fearmongering, show your support and vote “Yes.”
