Negative rhetoric reflects badly
Having received numerous District 52 mailings, I felt compelled to express my observations about Erin Chan Ding’s campaign and by extension, her candidacy for this office.
I have been voting since 1976. I grew up during the women’s liberation movement and understand what “standing on the shoulders of others” means. Those that blazed the path that allowed something new to emerge — those were the true heroes. In this regard, Maria Peterson brings a depth of hands-on, lived experience both professionally and politically that positions her to be both the shoulders and the candidate to finally break through the ceiling and turn this state legislative district from purple to blue.
The negative rhetoric coming out of her competitor’s campaign demonstrates a candidate who either willingly accepts bad advice or believes the rhetoric. Both speak to her character. By my assessment, it is character that shows she possesses neither the judgment nor the maturity to govern in a time that calls for measured, focused and respectful dialogue.
District 52 is a state legislative office in a state dominated by the Democrat Party. Republican representation in this state has no voice. Making reference to either Trump or MAGA for this race is irrelevant and yet, that is all we are hearing from Ms. Ding. Her candidacy is reduced to caricature.
A brief comparison of resumes shows Maria’s dense professional experience that is hands-on and, in the trenches, working for real people. Erin’s experience as a journalist and her service as a school board member is a great start for building a future in public service. In my opinion, she is not ready for this position.
For steady, measured leadership in this district, I will vote for maturity and experience — which is why I will be voting for Maria Peterson.
