Eastbound I-290 reopens near Elmhurst after early morning tractor-trailer crash

Eastbound Interstate 290 at St. Charles Road near Elmhurst reopened just after 1:30 p.m. after a tractor-trailer crashed early Thursday morning and was left dangling from a partially completed overpass.

The crash happened just before 3 a.m.

The cargo from the trailer was removed before the vehicle could be moved off the road.

Authorities diverted traffic onto the St. Charles Road exit.

Nearby Electric Avenue was also closed between Coolidge and Edgewood avenues as well.

Illinois State Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer lost control of the vehicle and “crashed through the temporary concrete barriers and partially came to rest on a new, unfinished portion of the roadway.” No other vehicles were involved.

There are no reports of any injuries.
