Eastbound I-290 closed near Elmhurst after tractor-trailer crash

Eastbound Interstate 290 at St. Charles Road near Elmhurst is closed after a tractor-trailer crashed and is hanging off a partially constructed ramp.

The crash happened some time before 3 a.m.

Authorities are diverting traffic onto the St. Charles Road exit.

Nearby Electric Avenue is also closed between Coolidge and Edgewood avenues as well, according to reports from online traffic-monitoring website sigalert.com.

Illinois State Police said the driver of the tractor-trailer lost control of the vehicle and “crashed through the temporary concrete barriers and partially came to rest on a new, unfinished portion of the roadway.” No other vehicles were involved.

Long delays are expected.

There are no reports of any injuries.
