Train strikes vehicle near Arlington Park station; two flee scene

A train struck a vehicle on the tracks near the Arlington Park station in Arlington Heights early Thursday, officials said.

The commuter train collided with the vehicle near the crossing with Wilke Road at 1:51 a.m.

Witnesses reported two people fleeing the scene, but investigators are unsure if they were occupants of the car, according to Metra spokesman Michael Gillis.

The two people haven’t been located, Gillis said, but Metra police are investigating.

The vehicle was towed from the scene, and the Union Pacific Northwest Line was back in operation by 3:25 a.m. No other trains were impacted since Metra train 601 was the last outbound train of the night.

No injuries were reported.
