Robbers steal woman’s jewelry in Des Plaines

A woman was robbed of jewelry Monday afternoon while outside a store on the 1500 block of Lee Street in Des Plaines, police said.

The 62-year-old woman was confronted by two women in an SUV driven by a man, a police spokesperson said.

The women placed a necklace around the victim’s neck and a bracelet around her wrist, then removed the pieces and gold jewelry she had been wearing, police said.

The woman discovered the jewelry was missing and called 911, but the SUV already was gone, police said.

Similar robberies have been reported in the suburbs.
