Early voting kicks into high gear as more polls open across the suburbs

The primary election is still a couple of weeks away, but those looking to put campaign season in their rear-view mirrors until fall hit the polls Monday as widespread early voting opened across the suburbs.

Early voting had been taking place at select locations since last month, but dozens of additional polling places opened Monday and will stay open until a day before the March 17 primary.

Among the most closely watched races being decided are those for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Sen. Dick Durbin; the Republican primary to select an opponent for Gov. JB Pritzker in November; and packed Democratic primaries for open 8th and 9th District U.S. House seats.
