Man killed in apparent accidental shooting in Elgin

A man died from an apparently accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound on Elgin’s east side Friday night, police said.

According to Elgin police, officers dispatched to the 1600 block of Villa Street at 6:17 p.m. Friday found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

Police said preliminary information indicates the man accidentally shot himself, but the shooting remains under investigation.

An autopsy will be conducted Monday by the Kane County Coroner’s office, officials said.
