Mixed-up interpretations of biblical statements
RE: Feb. 23 Comment: by James Galvin, “Evil, goodness are both choices”
Mr. Galvin, and most church leaders, have their biblical interpretations mixed up. Yes, we should “welcome the stranger, feed and clothe the poor”. However, it is meant to be a personal obligation, not one passed off to others, such as government and taxpayers.
Would Mr. Galvin personally assume the total financial obligation of welcoming, feeding, and clothing of even one illegal migrant? Would our caring, benevolent churches assume the total costs as well? Perhaps the churches could visit the crowded hospital emergency rooms and cover those costs. That is genuine biblical goodness.
No, they prefer to quote Scripture and then force government/taxpayers to provide all the costs. It makes them feel so righteous.
