Glen Ellyn firefighters extinguish blaze inside vacant home

No injuries were reported from a late night house fire in Glen Ellyn Monday.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire just before 11 p.m. by a neighbor who reported hearing a smoke alarm coming from the vacant two-story, single-family house on the 600 block of Sheehan Avenue, fire officials said.

Fire officials said the blaze originated in the basement, but the cause remains under investigation. It took nearly 40 minutes to extinguish and firefighters remained on scene for more than three hours.

The home was vacant following the death of the owner, but was not being renovated or undergoing any significant repairs, fire officials.

Damage estimates were not available, but the house was deemed uninhabitable.
