Glen Ellyn’s Cepuran ends Milan Cortina bid in mass start

In his final speed skating event of the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, Glen Ellyn native Ethan Cepuran on Saturday finished 20th in the men’s mass start.

Skating in the second of two semifinals at the Milan Speed Skating Stadium, Cepuran placed ninth with the top eight qualifying into finals.

With advancement in mass start based on points earned on intermediate sprints on laps four, eight, 12 and the final sprint to the finish, Cepuran earned 1 point for a third-place finish on the eighth lap.

Cepuran skated the 6,400 meters in 7 minutes, 53.07 seconds.

In the final, United States teammate Jordan Stolz was left off the podium, finishing fourth behind gold medalist Jorrit Bergsma of the Netherlands, Viktor Hald Thorup of Denmark, and Andrea Giovannini of Italy.

Cepuran, 25, leaves Milan with the silver medal earned Feb. 17 in team pursuit with Stolz and Oak Park native Emery Lehman.
