Woman in critical condition after colliding with SUV while bicycling in Aurora

A woman is in critical condition after the bicycle she was riding collided with an SUV Thursday afternoon in Aurora.

According to a news release from the Aurora Police Department, a Chevrolet SUV driven by a 64-year-old man collided with the female bicyclist at the crosswalk near Montgomery Road and Walcott Road at about 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 19.

The woman was taken to a local hospital by Aurora Fire Department paramedics and was later airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

The driver of the Chevrolet was not injured and remained on the scene.

APD’s Traffic Division is investigating to determine the cause of the crash. Portions of Montgomery and Walcott roads were closed for several hours to allow investigators to document and process the scene.

Any charges or traffic citations are pending the outcome of the investigation, officials said.
