Girls basketball roundup: Schlib scores 1,000th point in St. Charles East’s regional semifinal win
Senior guard Addie Schilb joined the 1,000-point club for her career while leading St. Charles East (19-11) to a convincing 55-28 Class 4A regional semifinal victory over West Chicago Tuesday night in St. Charles.
Schilb reached the milestone on a three-point play off a drive to the basket with 5:40 remaining in the fourth quarter. Following a brief on-court celebration with her teammates, Schilb completed the three-point play with a free throw before the Saints emptied their bench.
Sophomore Brooklyn Schilb, who also hit the 1,000-point mark earlier this season, tallied 15 first-half points as the Saints built a 31-14 halftime advantage. Her free throw early in the fourth quarter extended the Saints’ lead to 30 at 49-19, kick-starting a running clock the rest of the way.
St. Charles East will aim for its third straight regional title Thursday night against Batavia (10-21).
West Chicago finished its season at 18-13.
Naperville Central 69, Metea Valley 19: The DuPage Valley Conference champion Redhawks (25-6) began postseason play with a 69-19 victory over Metea Valley in Tuesday’s Class 4A regional semifinals at Naperville North.
Senior Erin Hackett paced the Redhawks with 25 points, 5 assists, and 4 steals, while Clemson-bound Trinity Jones added 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. Junior center Annabelle Kritzer tallied 14 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, as Naperville Central advanced to Thursday’s 6 p.m. regional title game against Naperville North (20-10).
Crystal Lake South 52, Crystal Lake Central 15: Gaby Dzik poured in a game-high 23 points during Crystal Lake South’s 52-15 Class 3A regional semifinal victory over Crystal Lake Central (8-23).
The top-seeded Gators (24-6) also received contributions from Tessa Melhuish (11 points, 14 rebounds) and Makena Cleary (10 points).
With the win, the Gators advance to Thursday’s 7 p.m. Woodstock North regional championship clash.
Glenbard South 65, IMSA 14: Freshman guard Jordan Bailey scored 14 first-half points to help lift Glenbard South (26-4) to a 65-14 Class 3A regional semifinal triumph over Illinois Math and Science Academy (2-19) on the Raiders’ home court.
The Raiders, who advance to Friday’s 7 p.m. regional championship, led 45-11 at halftime.
Johnsburg 45, Wheaton Academy 22: The top-seeded Skyhawks improved to 33-0 with Tuesday’s 45-22 Class 2A regional semifinal triumph over No. 9 seed Wheaton Academy at Regina Dominican.
Summer Toussaint led Johnsburg with 15 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals, while Skye Toussaint added 12 points and 9 rebounds.
The Warriors finished the season at 13-17.
Burlington Central 48, Rochelle 41: The second-seeded Rockets (22-9) opened Class 3A regional semifinal action with a 48-41 victory over No. 7 seed Rochelle Tuesday night in Sycamore.
Three juniors led the way for the Rockets, as guard Audrey LaFleur scored a game-high 19 points, forward Julia Scheuer added 15 points, and guard Kelsey Covey chipped in with 11 points.
Burlington Central will shoot for its first regional title since 2023 Thursday night in Sycamore.
St. Charles North 53, Proviso East 18: The fourth-seeded North Stars (22-7) built a commanding 34-8 halftime lead on their way to a 53-18 victory over No. 13 Proviso East (17-13) in Tuesday’s Class 4A regional semifinals in St. Charles.
St. Charles North advances to Thursday’s 6 p.m. regional championship game against No. 5 York (15-15), which knocked off No. 12 Glenbard North, 55-29, in the other semifinal contest.
Glenbard West 79, Bartlett 34: The host Hilltoppers (26-4) jumped out to a 30-6 first-quarter lead and extended it to 51-12 halftime on the way to a 79-34 Class 4A regional semifinal victory over Bartlett (9-24) in Glen Ellyn.
With the win, Glenbard West moves on Thursday’s 6 p.m. regional championship game against No. 8 seed Wheaton Warrenville South (16-16), which earned a 45-35 win over Montini (9-22) in the other semifinal contest.
Lake Park 67, Willowbrook 17: The second-seeded Lancers (27-5) relied on their suffocating defense to grab a 46-7 halftime advantage on the way to a 67-17 Class 4A regional semifinal victory over No. 15 Willowbrook (11-19) Tuesday night in Roselle.
With the win, the DuKane champions will face fellow conference foe Wheaton North in Friday’s 6 p.m. regional finals.
The Falcons (11-20) earned a 50-28 victory over No. 10 Glenbard East (8-23) in the other semifinal clash.
Downers Grove North 47, Chicago Jones 21: The second-seeded Trojans (28-2) extended their winning streak to 14 with Tuesday’s 47-21 Class 4A regional semifinal victory over No. 15 Chicago Jones in Downers Grove.
Downers Grove North advances to Thursday’s 6:30 p.m. regional finals.
Benet Academy 66, Plainfield East 24: The host Redwings improved to 25-4 with Tuesday’s 66-24 Class 4A regional semifinal triumph over Plainfield East in Lisle.
With the win, top-seeded Benet Academy advances to Thursday’s 6 p.m. regional finals against No., Oswego East (17-10), which edged No. 9 Neuqua Valley, 35-33, in the other semifinal clash.
The Wildcats end their season at 14-17.
Naperville North 56, Plainfield South 39: Ava Podkasik and Sam Kelly helped lead the sixth-seeded Huskies (20-10) to a 56-39 Class 4A regional semifinal victory over No. 12 Plainfield South (13-17) Tuesday at Naperville North.
With the win, the Huskies earn a third matchup against No. 3 seed Naperville Central (25-6) in Thursday’s 6 p.m. regional championship.
IC Catholic Prep 40, Westmont 19: Senior Mary Kate Hilgart scored a game-high 18 points to lift IC Catholic Prep (14-14) to a 40-19 Class 2A regional semifinal victory over host Westmont (17-12) Tuesday night.
Libby Phillips and Ali Fromelt added 12 and 8 points, respectively, as the fifth-seeded Knights advance to Friday’s 7 p.m. regional championship against top-seeded Hope Academy (17-11).
Lake Zurich 36, South Elgin 20: The Storm came up short at their own 4A regional. Lake Zurich will play Rolling Meadows, a 49-21 winner over Schaumburg, for the regional title.
