Students showcase problem-solving skills at Lego robotics championship
Fifty-six teams of 9- to 14 year-old students and coaches demonstrated their problem-solving skills, creative thinking and teamwork through competitive play during the FIRST Lego League Challenge Illinois State Championship held Saturday at Elgin Community College.
For the UNEARTHED Challenge, teams attempted to find hidden treasures and piece together the past. They also had to identify a mission strategy, design, create, and code a robot to complete missions during the 2.5-minute Robot Game.
The competition is judged in three areas: innovation project, robot design and core values, which embody aspects of teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Team Barnstormers, at top, and Team Infinite Robotic 96 of Buffalo Grove compete Saturday during the FIRST Lego League Challenge Illinois State Robotics Championship at Elgin Community College in Elgin.
