Biden must own immigration policy failures

In recent weeks, the fact that our government is not working is reflected in the gross divisiveness among our citizens about various matters of public policy. The evidence for this assertion can be found in unruly protest demonstrations (riots?) in several major cities, especially Minneapolis. Most will know the “objectionable matter de jour” is enforcement of U.S. immigration laws by ICE, CBP and other constitutionally sanctioned federal law enforcement personnel.

During his one year in office, President Donald Trump has been endlessly eviscerated for anything he has done, or not done, to address immigration enforcement shortcomings of the recent past. Despite that, he is fulfilling a major election campaign promise to clean up the immigration mess.

Inexplicably, most elected Democrats and some Republican officials have no interest in solving the problem and have vocally supported persons who have entered the country illegally, or entered legally, and then violated the laws that allow them to remain. This has stoked the fires of discontent, divisiveness and lawlessness, all of which have been costly in several respects.

As for the damage caused by the destructive demonstrations concerning ICE, only a few media people have mentioned or acknowledged the fact that, if President Biden had, in his four years in office, not chosen to ignore extant immigration policies and practices, which allowed millions of unvetted people into our country via his “open borders policy,” no harmful and expensive protests would have taken place — none.

Our country’s leaders could have spent time solving other problems, our cities and states would not have spent billions caring for the newcomers, and people abused, raped, robbed, injured or killed by true criminals among the illegal class — would never have been touched. Blaming this unrepairable damage to our country on President Trump is wrong; it is President Biden’s to own!
