Playoff time is here for girls basketball

The girls basketball postseason has arrived with regional semifinals and championship games throughout next week. We’ve got your look ahead starting with Kevin Schmit’s column.

Here’s our preview of Cook County teams.

Lake County.

DuPage County and the Fox Valley.

There were a number of big games this week as the girls basketball regular season closed including Naperville Central’s 68-65 victory over Waubonsie Valley to win the DuPage Valley tittle.

Maine South downed Vernon Hills in the Central Suburban League championship game.

Prospect made history with its first MSL title, beating Buffalo Grove.

Mundelein won its 20th game, a victory over Lake Zurich that denied the Bears a share of the North Suburban crown with Libertyville.

The past week also was a busy one for gymnastics teams including sectional championships for Conant, Lake Park and Downers Grove co-op, the defending state champion.
