Hoffman Estates Citizens Fire Academy celebrating 25th anniversary with three sessions

The Hoffman Estates Citizens Fire Academy will mark its 25th anniversary this year with separate sessions for adults, teens and those with special needs.

Registration is now open for the sessions that operate from 6-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings during their respective time periods.

The academy enables students of all ability levels to test their limits and see if they have what it takes to work on the front lines in fire and emergency services.

Among the activities are working in simulated live fire scenarios in full turnout gear, using the Jaws of Life to perform a vehicle extrication, getting certified in CPR and AED use and more.

The Citizens Fire Academy for adults over the age of 21 runs from March 4 to April 8 and interested persons can apply here.

The Teen Fire Academy for those 14 to 20 years old runs from July 1 to Aug. 5 and those interested can apply here.

Returning for its second year, the Fully Involved Fire Academy for those with special needs will run from Sept. 2 to Oct. 7 and those interested can apply here.
