Pet missing after house fire in Aurora
A pet dog is missing after a Sunday night fire in Aurora that left a house uninhabitable.
Aurora firefighters responded at approximately 8:42 p.m. to the report of a house fire on the 0–99 block of North May Street. They encountered increasing smoke coming a second-floor bedroom inside the one-and-a-half-story home, authorities said.
According to a news release, firefighters faced “difficult access conditions” due to obstructions behind the bedroom door. The fire was extinguished within 25 minutes.
Firefighters did primary and secondary searches of the house.
One juvenile was taken to a local hospital for evaluation related to smoke inhalation, officials said. While two cats were safely removed, authorities said, a dog was reported missing and could not be located after multiple search attempts.
Officials said the home was deemed uninhabitable. They said two adults and two children were displaced and are temporarily staying with family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
