Man accused of having gun under child’s car seat

A Downers Grove man has been accused of hiding a loaded gun under the car seat a child was in.

Antoine Street, 40, of the 5800 block of Lee Avenue, is charged with felony aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon that was concealed in a vehicle, without him having a Firearm Owner’s Identification card or a concealed-carry license.

He is also charged with misdemeanor counts of resisting a peace officer, endangering the health or life of a child and unlawful possession of cannabis by a passenger, according to a news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office.

On Wednesday, DuPage County Judge Joshua Dieden ordered that Street be held in jail pretrial.

Naperville police stopped a vehicle at 10:47 p.m. Tuesday. According to the news release, Street owned the vehicle and was wanted on warrants out of Cook County. Street was in a rear passenger seat. His 1-year-old daughter was in the middle rear passenger seat.

When police asked Street to exit the vehicle, he refused, according to the news release.

Officers found a loaded 9 mm Ruger pistol under the child’s car seat.

The news release said Street had about 32 grams of cannabis.

According to a petition for detention filed by prosecutors, police said Street told them the gun belonged to his girlfriend, who was driving the car. He also said he was in the car to keep her company while she made deliveries for Uber Eats, according to the petition.

His next court date is March 2.
