Paramedic injured after responding to DUI crash on I-90 near Hoffman Estates

A paramedic was injured early Monday when a semitrailer truck crashed into a vehicle involved in an earlier crash on Interstate 90 near Hoffman Estates.

The paramedic and the driver of the semitrailer truck were both transported to a hospital, Illinois State Police officials said. Their conditions are unknown.

Troopers said the paramedic had responded to a crash just before 2 a.m. involving a black Ford sedan and a Kia SUV in the westbound lanes of I-90.

While assisting those involved in that crash, the semitractor truck collided with one of the vehicles from the first crash and rolled over. The paramedic was struck by the vehicle the semi crashed into.

No one involved in the first crash suffered any injuries, state police said. The driver of the Ford was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving.

All westbound lanes of I-90 were closed for roughly six hours.
