National civics competition for middle schoolers comes with $100K top prize

Sixth, seventh and eighth graders with an idea about using civics to improve their community can submit an essay to participate in a national competition with a chance to win a $100,000 in a 529 educational savings plan.

The Lake Zurich Area Chamber of Commerce is offering the competition regionally to support informed and active citizens.

Applications must be submitted by the end of the day Tuesday, Feb. 3. The local competition will be held in April or May. Local winners advance to state and possibly national competition. Visit lzacc.com/civicsbee for details.
