Police: Palatine woman assaulted 3 officers during traffic stop
A Palatine woman faces felony charges alleging she assaulted three police officers during a traffic stop Tuesday, authorities said.
Star D. Hampton, 33, of the 400 block of West Palatine Road, is charged with three counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, three counts of resisting arrest and two counts of endangering the life or health of a child, police said.
According to police, Hampton was pulled over for traffic violations at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday in the area of Dundee and Rand roads. During the stop, officers learned there were warrants for her from Champaign County for failure to appear in court on previous aggravated battery charges, police said.
Authorities allege Hampton struck and kicked officers as they arrested her, resulting in minor injuries to three officers.
Following an appearance in Cook County court Wednesday, Hampton was released on the Palatine charges but remained in custody pending extradition to Champaign County.
During the investigation, officers discovered two children were unattended at her home, officials said. Police detectives worked with the appropriate child welfare agency to ensure their safety, they added.
