Two cats killed in Arlington Heights house fire

Two cats were killed in a structure fire at an Arlington Heights home Wednesday evening.

The Arlington Heights Fire Department says they responded to the 700 block of West Hintz Road around 5:45 P.M. after residents reported visible flames and smoke.

Officials say they found all residents safely evacuated, but while searching the home and extinguishing the flames, they found the residents’ two cats had succumbed to toxic gases.

They were able to put out the fire before it spread past the back of the building and the second floor.

The residents were home when they noticed their Wi-Fi had gone out and then heard the sound of breaking glass.

Investigating upstairs, they discovered the smoke, quickly evacuated and called 911.

They also informed officials that their smoke alarms were not operational at the time of the fire.

Arlington Heights officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire.
